about

This song, as part of my concept album, is sequenced between "Wake Up! (Reprise)" and "Dawn".
The song is half-sung and half-spoken, with the bass guitar as accompaniment. The song is played as a bluesy shuffle, and the open G string is the only note played. I was influenced by the song "Kick" by Jandek, which consists of the artist playing one guitar string and playing the same note for the entire duration of the song.

lyrics

It's past the end of the day
I'm lying here in bed
And I'm wondering, "Why won't sleep come?"

Restless on the mattress tossing and turning
My desire to shut down is burning
And I wonder "Why won't sleep come?"

I've lain here for an eternity
The night seems neverending
Why won't sleep come?

I feel the sandman has come
Taunting me with his motions
Showing me his ticking clock
That keeps going and going and going
Why won't sleep come?

My thoughts are racing, my heart beating
And visions of the day are fleeting
Why won't sleep come?
