about

For Trent Petch.

The song is about a busker I met at the Sunshine train station in 2017; he inspired me to briefly go busking myself. He was very hard to get in contact with however. The song was written in 2018.

My mentor at the Visy Cares Hub, Bill Black (keyboardist in the punk band Slim Jeffries) constructed the music on Logic, recording an acoustic gutiar and treating it with various effects, and programming drums using the Logic Drummer. In 2021 I added vocals, as well as additional guitar parts and a bass part.

The cover art is a photograph I took of Petch busking at the Sunshine train station in Melbourne, taken on the 3rd of June 2017. He (and his brother Justen) would occasionally busk there.

The song is part of my concept album Talk to Me, about communication.

lyrics

So I saw you on a quiet street
You were so nice to meet
We talked about the music we played
And everything we had made

All of a sudden we had to depart
But you gave me some information
You told me "we'd meet again"
I'm still waiting on that situation

And here I am, waiting for an answer
I'm left in the dark
Counting the days for you to come around
Endless nights asleep in the park

Months go by, and nothing changes
I'm going backwards, turning pages
I don't know, I don't know
if things can be rearranged

And here I am, waiting for an answer
I'm left in the dark
Counting the days for you to come around
Endless nights asleep in the park

You don't go online; you're a ghost
Your presence rarely seen around here, around here
I could wait five years at the most
All I can hope for is that you appear

And here I am, waiting for an answer
I'm left in the dark
Counting the days for you to come around
Endless nights asleep in the park
