about

As a piece of my concept album, this is to be sequenced between "It Don't Last Forever" and "You Make Me Want to Bang My Head in the Wall One Million Times!"
The lyrics are inspired by my school band rehearsals for the production of 'The Wizard of Oz', specifically the holiday rehearsals.
The lyrics in the fourth verse are inspired by my feeling of being disconnected from my 'friends' that I know, but they don't talk to me as much. The fifth verse is a summary of the story for the film.

lyrics

Monday we are all practicing
in the classroom for 'the Wizard of Oz'
And King Orchard has complete control
Of who is or was
No one plays to the recordings
But we play off the sheet music
Sometimes I can't help
But get lost in the confusion

Tuesday it's mostly the same
Just some new pieces for us to aim
The show's a mixture of the classic movie
And 'The Wiz'; the disco's kind of groovy
Now, practicing the songs ad infinitum
Playing them competently is the minimum
Are they owned by EMI? I don't know
But the copyright has years to go

Wednesday we're all revved up
And ready for the sounds
Playing and singing anthems
As they're played at random
And as the actors go into the scene
Our music gradually undulates
One by one they're falling
And a frantic voice is calling

Look at their faces, they're enjoying themselves
Am I blind to the fun that they have?
They don't acknowledge my presence
It's like they don't see me at all
Hello David the lion, do we talk anymore?
Dominic, the Tin Man, I feel the same way
We're united physically, but mentally disconnected
I could be narcissistic or merely neglected!

Somewhere over the rainbow, Dorothy found a land
She met the Scarecrow, the Lion and the Tin Man
Then the Wicked Witch came to claim their lives
But suddenly, ding-dong! She died.
In the end, the Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow
Got what they needed, and happy it was so
Then Dorothy was told no longer to roam
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
There's no place like home.
