This is a kind of bittersweet song about a girl in my class. I had developed some sort of obsession with her (which is a recurring pattern in my life and some of my songs, e.g. 'The Love That Never Was'). We briefly had a falling-out, but after a while we made up.
This was recorded at the UpBeat music program studio in the Visy Cares Hub.

She's a school friend of mine
Yes, that can vary over time
When I try to please her, I want her attention
And I always come under suspicion

When she sings, she makes me feel good
How do I speak to her like a friend should?
Her voice is so lovely and sweet
But I should contain myself when we meet

Gradually, she became distanced from me
For I didn't take the hint to leave her be
She was not angry at me, but I could tell
I was slowly sending us both to hell.

That pattern was recurring,
but this was not declared
It didn't leave out the possibility
Of our friendship being repaired

When she sings, she makes me feel good
How do I speak to her like a friend should?
Her voice is so lovely and sweet
But I should contain myself when we meet

And sure enough, she smiled to me as a friend
Said "You calmed down, so I'll talk to you again"
So I asked her "Are we still friends?"
And she said "Yes, it's not the end"

We're merely friends, and that is that
Nothing I can do to change that fact
And when I think of her now, I smile
For we have since reconciled
