about

This song is about attending the 2017 "Push Start" music competition organised by FReeZA; the competition was held at the St Albans Community Centre.
The acoustic guitar is panned hard left, while the piano is panned hard right.
The acoustic guitar in the song is tuned to D tuning. I was attempting to sound like Tom Waits in this song; specifically the song "Heartattack and Vine".

lyrics

v1
On Saturday night I went down to "Push Start"
Sacrificed my music program, I had to depart
I was greeted by friends somewhat unfamiliar
I knew the occasion was rather peculiar

Gradually my fears disintegrated
Soon I was quite fascinated
I sat in the warm auditorium
As a polite and charitable audience

There was a digital piano on the stage
And a couple of microphones in the front view
What had they said on the one page?
There were only two songs for us to preview

chorus
Like the Beatles said in "Dear Prudence"
I was needed to come out to play
I saw the sunny skies through shades of rain
I'll never walk alone, I'll smile again

v2
Some of the artists showcased soulful singing
Others displayed their rapping skills
The majority of us did our own songs
With the exception of the last one

So I did "I Never Wanna Die" and "Bridges Burned"
With those songs down, the page was turned
I believed I could aim high for the stars
And aim I did, though I was not too far

I'd made some friends with my shy attitude
The upcoming artists showed me their gratitude
I did not win, but who am I to complain?
I had enjoyed the night, all the same.

chorus
Like the Beatles said in "Dear Prudence"
I was needed to come out to play
I saw the sunny skies through shades of rain
I'll never walk alone, I'll smile again
