about

This is another part of my concept album about communication and friendship. This is about not being able to function in heated, boisterous environments.

The vocals were recorded on my Android phone using Soundtrap. I double-tracked my vocals to create a fuller sound; one take is in the left channel and the other is in the right.
My uni friend Nelson Wilcox recorded some rhythm guitar (recording two tracks and combining them for simplicity). However, he didn't play on the bridge (and the chords in the outro were incorrect), so I used my original guitar part in those spots.

The drums were recorded by @zecoop.
The guitar solo in the middle is panned in the right channel and treated with distortion, echo and phase effects. In the left channel is the same solo but reversed.

Due to the abrasive nature of the song I had the work of the Velvet Underground as an inlfuence.

This recording is from September 2021. I wrote the song in February 2019.

lyrics

All we do is scream at each other
How can we find the power to survive?
Explosions of anger all over the place
Full depression, no solution

I can't work like this
Dealing with stress again
No, I can't work like this
Why can't we just be friends?

I hear your strained symphony
Infiltrate and bother me
Arguments divide us and cause commotion
Dissonant melodies are set in motion

Hello my old friend
Isn't this the very end?
We've travelled so far, but it's a nightmare
Now I can see that we're going nowhere

I can't work like this
Dealing with stress again
No, I can't work like this
Why can't we just be friends?

Will there be an end to this?
Perhaps, only time will tell
In the end, we'll mend all this
And put to rest this personal hell
