about

This is the final song on my concept album about my life over the course of these 90 days. This is a progressive rock song, featuring only piano and vocal (it was all I had to work with at the time). The song consists of multiple sections, relying heavily on improvisation.
The lyrics name-drop the remaining 49 songs in the order of which they are meant to be sequenced; the song titles are marked in parentheses. The song also incorporates the melody from the folk song "Auld Lang Syne" before using the lyrics from my planned song for year 12 graduation (around 14:45 to 19:20).
Unfortunately the phone was placed next to the piano during recording (I also used it as a reference to see how long I was going for), resulting in distorted piano sound that overpowers my voice.
Up until 2020, this was the longest track I had ever recorded, at almost 26 minutes. (My track "Rollin", an instrumental clocking in at 29 minutes, was released in 2020).

lyrics

Here we are at the end of the world
We've reached the promised land
We'll all walk on and fade away into oblivion
Look all around you, reality is crumbling down
Nowhere else is your salvation found
I feel nothing but sweet tranquility
Knowing that this time allows me my liberty
Am I dreaming, or is this a reality?
I believe it's time to bring an end to the story

"Sorry, should I start from the beginning?"

Where it all began, I was {asleep in the night}
And then my parents told me to {wake up}
I went on a {lunch break} and then fell asleep
I'd {wake up} again, with more problems to reap
Funny, sometimes I think {"Why won't sleep come?"}

The morning breaks and I'm confronted by {dawn}
And I realise {it's your birthday} today
Time is short, {it don't last forever}

Being a part of the Wizard of Oz
There's {no place like home}
Yes but there's things inside my head
That let beasts of burden roam
{You make me want to bang my head in the wall one million times}
Don't take it personally, just read between the lines
{The Lab} is all over for me now
Friends stopped going anyhow
All that's left are vivid, clear memories

{With each and every attack}, my fellow musicians get stronger
Everything has changed, and {the day off} seems longer
{She} knows that I won't do her any harm
But sometimes she won't {listen to me}
{Watching TV} I can't {fake it}
Your feelings just fade to static
{Must I try for you?}

Most of the time I'm (feeling upbeat)
Fleshing out group ideas is sweet
However, sometimes my wellbeing is failing
One busy day {I missed the train}
Later that night there was a {domestic disturbance}
But hey, I went to {push start} and felt elation
Fellow performers gave me resonating relations

In [my living room], I sit amidst the grey, washed out walls
There's people shouting obscenities in the hall
{What happened to the record store?}
I'm {worlds apart} from the students at my door

{Doctor, doctor}, please let me go further
Took a refreshing and calm {McDonald's soundwalk}
{The fast food song} is my theme round the clock
{A rainy day in the city} doesn't really bother me
What concerns me is the deadline for {FAWM 50/90}
In the studio, {nothing was achieved} that day
But I took the chance and began to play
On {that piano}, I wrote "a Lydian piece"
{Doctor, doctor}, someday I shall be released

I was ill on the {last day of July}
It was blue and cloudless in the sky
It continued into the {first day of August}
I'm sad to say that life isn't exactly flawless
Like I said, there's {no place like home}
{Welcome to the show}, all my friends
We'll perform until the world ends!
You're a {unique, leavin' outsider}
Only to a select few do you set free your {revelations}
When {the party's over}, it's fitting for the occasion

Dear friends, {I'm all out of ideas}
I'll say it again, {I'm all out of ideas}
The world is empty and it {seems quiet in here}

In my humble opinion {maths is worse than} literature
And {voting is a heatwave}, forcing unlucky signatures
{When the phone rings}, I hate the piercing sound
Oh my god, there's {zigzag spambots} all around!
I'm {feelinglikegraduallyrunningoutofpreciousvaluabletime}
Soon, all that will be left of me are music and crimes
What is this? {The chaotic nature of the Upbeat music program}

Do what you like, but {you won't keep me down}
You can throw around your perceptions
If I want to do what I think is right
Don't even think about raising objections

We can make it if we try
We ain't ever gonna die

I'm standing here in the crowd
And everyone sings along to songs I don't know
I feel disconnected

Throw down your axe and swords
How long does the rain fall?
How long?

How can I see through this disguise?
How do I look at you through the same eyes?
Why do I feel you're greater than me?
That's not the way it's supposed to be
Pardon me if I seem quite rude, or if something's wrong with my attitude
Jealousy is something I can't hide

No need to hide under a disguise
Gather up your strength to smile and rise
I don't need to see that look in your eyes
We're all the same, deep down inside

Remember the days when we were young?
Oh, how the times have flown
Before the day's end
The walls will come crumbling down

The clouds give way to an empty blue sky
Filled with tranquility, all the fires die
So here we are, not far from where we began
The world is at our command!

Now we're travelling on the long road
We'll be walking on for centuries
So many years from now
We'll cherish golden memories

The end is not too long from now
It's not too far from here
Who knows where we'll go?
There is nothing to fear

You shall not worry, {there is nothing to fear}
A universe awaits beyond what lies here
No longer frightened, you bring down the wall
This is {the end of it all}.
